I have always loved this picture and have wanted one for my home. i love your paintings and own a few of them. You have such an eye for what Christ would be like.
ReplyDeleteBeing an artist myself I can appreciate the time and talent that it takes to produce a work of art. You have an amazing gift to capture people and their emotions. This painting of Mary and baby Jesus helps the viewer to feel what it would be like to have witnessed this sacred time between mother and child. I would love to have this painting in my home for others to feel this moment and for the Spirit testifiying to them of our Savior as they view this very personal side of the Savior's life. Thank you for sharing your talent in such a way that we are spiritually edified as well as visually.
ReplyDeleteI love your paintings and right now I don't have any hanging in my home. I have this dream of collecting mother and child images and this would be a wonderful way to start that collection, as well as, my Liz Lemon Swindle collection.

ReplyDeleteWe served our mission at The Historical Liberty Jail in MO. They had 18-20 pictures of Liz's about the prophet Joseph Smith. Since we've been home we have gotten a few but not this exact one. We would love to diplay it in our home.
ReplyDeleteClayton & Cherie
This particular painting reminds me of Mary's Lullaby generally sang at Christmas time. This sweet baby with those precious moments shared between a mother and her infant when nothing else in the world matters, but the two of you and the bond created. For Mary though it was the Savior that was her son and the fear and uncertainty fades away as in those moments he is just her son, her baby. I would love to have this picture to display in my home to remind myself as well as my children the love of a mother for her child.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this painting and would love nothing more than to have it hanging in my home where I could see it daily! I love the tenderness that it invokes inside of me.
ReplyDeleteI first saw this painting, your painting, at an annual Christmas Nativity Display held in our Ohio Stake each year. There were several artist's paintings of "Mother and Child" on display. A couple of woman were commenting how this Christ child or that Christ child reminded them of their own child. When I saw this particular picture my heart leaped a little for you captured my newborn baby. It was a quiet, peaceful, remembering moment for me. I have loved this painting ever since.
ReplyDeleteI think this was the first of your paintings we bought. The furrow of the baby's forehead reminded me so much of when my children were first born. My sister has always LOVED this painting hanging in our home and it would be an AMAZING gift to give her. Her family has been going through some health & financial struggles over the past 2 years. Looking at art is such an amazing way to let go of your struggles and be reminded of the positive in life. Thank you for being such an amazing artist and sharing this gift!
ReplyDeleteI love this painting. I have several daily obstacles I have to overcome. The world tells me "You can't." I have overcome many disabilities that should have taken my life. My dream is to have my own child. This painting gives me that hope.
ReplyDeleteBetsy
I have always loved this painting but, can not afford to buy it. It has always helped my family and i to get thru the hard time we have had when ever we look at any of your paintings.
ReplyDeleteI love love LOVE your art and have always been a huge fan. I've had my eye on this one for a while and just know it would look amazing in my new home. Thank you for all your hard work! It was great to meet you during Education Week at BYU this past summer. :)
ReplyDelete"Be It Unto Me"...how I love the spirit of that phrase and your art completes the feeling for me. I've never been married or had children; I am older so have sought to develop the 'mother heart' in relationships with others. As women, we are all 'handmaids' of the Lord. When I view this piece I feel so grateful to Mary for setting the example and to all of you mothers and artists who 'set my path'; for I desire to be both someday. Thanks, Liz...I love you through your art... Jerri Gordon
ReplyDeleteI would love to own this painting because I am a new mother and it portrays my testimony of motherhood and of Christ.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was pregnant with my first child, a son, I was due around Christmas. I was filled with a little fear of the unknown, excitement, and reverence for the miracle of bearing a child. I had just finished reading the book "Two from Galilee" and was so moved by their story, The true miracle of Christs birth. Later, I was shopping in Park City with my mother and sisters one afternoon and we stopped in a stationary store. I was looking for Christmas cards to send out, and "Be It Unto Me" was on one of the cards. I was unprepared for the emotions that suddenly hit me as I looked at that image for the first time. I stood in the aisle and cried. I still cry when I see this picture, it has such a special meaning to me. It reminds me of so much. I would LOVE to be able to have this painting displayed in my home, and to show and tell my son why it's so important and special to me.
ReplyDeleteI am your newest follower. I have a copy of this but I would love to give a copy to my daughter. I received it from dear friends at a difficult time in my life. I have it hanging in my purple room where it looks so beautiful. My daughter has always loved it too. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway. I have blogged about it for 15 additional entries. I am now off to Facebook it.
ReplyDeleteI have completed the facebook link also. I want lots of entries to win this! (I haven't won a thing blogging yet!!!)
ReplyDeleteI went downstairs (it is past midnight) and I was wrong, I don't have this print, I have the one where neither Mary nor Jesus' eyes are showing - She Shall Bring Forth a Son, it is gorgeous too, but not as moving. I could use one for me and one for my daughter!!
ReplyDeleteI love this picture and would love to have it in my home. I am about to become a mother for the first time, which could be one reason why I really love this picture.
ReplyDelete- I have 21 entries

ReplyDeleteI would love this painting! It would be a beautiful addition to my home. I just became a mother and this picture is a beautiful portrayal.Funny story. ReplyDeleteI have all the entries possible! I did all of the required entries!!
Years ago I saw this picture in a magazine and ripped it out. It has sat on my dresser ever since but it is not a good quality picture. I absolutely love this picture. It would mean the world to me.
ReplyDeleteOh, I've ALWAYS loved that picture! I love how Mary is looking heavenward: perhaps for heavenly assistance. She also looks determined that she will do all she has been asked to do in raising the Son of God. Love it!
ReplyDeleteYears ago I just had to have this picture. I bought a Christmas card and framed it. It has sat on a table in my living room ever since. Not too long ago, some good friends were visiting with us and my friend saw the picture and started to cry. They had recently lost their sweet handicapped daughter and the picture reminded her of her daughter. I got on line and purchased a box of cards with the picture on it. I framed one and sent it to her along with the explaination, that I had saved, about what inspired you to paint this picture. She treasures that picture. I would love to send her the one that is offered in this contest. She has one other child, also handicapped. She devotes her life to caring for him and is the sweetest person I have ever met.
ReplyDeleteThank you, for painting such beautiful works to share with those of us who can only imagine how these wonderful people look!
There is just something so peaceful and lovely about Mary and the baby Jesus. I would love to win this picture.

ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely print! It instills a feeling of tenderness and humility. I would love to have this beautiful picture in my home to inspire all who would see it.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this beautiful picture for my oldest daughter. She has always loved it. With 5 young children, 10 and under, she has her hands full. She is a wonderful mother and I know that looking at this print each day, hanging in a place of honor in her home, would inspire her as she goes about her busy day.
ReplyDeleteI just became a mother and it is the best thing I ever did. My mom has this painting in her house and it was always a testament to me about how much she loved motherhood, and I'd like to have this painting in my home as well.

ReplyDeleteThis painting speaks to me. I love the artist's interpretation of a gentle moment between mother and Son, woman and her Savior. Like the song says, " Mary, did you know the One you delivered will soon deliver you?"
ReplyDeleteChristmas? Yes. But it would be up all year long in my home as a reminder of a baby born all human and yet all God. I am at babysixtoes@gmail.com

I would love a painting in my home. I try to have the spirit there. I have a lot of people enter my home that need to find Christ. I think if they saw the beautiful Savior they could start to heal by feeling his love
ReplyDeleteEven on the computer screen, the painting is so beautiful. I can imagine in person that it's breathtaking. I would love to hang it in my home, it's very calming and a comfort when you look at it.
ReplyDeletetshaw6580@yahoo.com
The birth of the Savior is always a story to help "refill our spirit tanks" and I've always been sad that we can't have that "Christmas spirit" in our home all year long. This gorgeous painting would definitely find a permanent place in our home to remind us all year of that wonderful "Christmas spirit" that we should be feeling ALL year. You are very talented and I would be proud to hang your work in my home! Thanks for the opportunity

The first time I saw this painting our fourth child was a newborn, he had been a trial to get here. Baby Jesus reminded me so much of our little miracle. They have the same hair and everything. This painting to this day gives me great comfort in knowing that Miracles are all around us. We just need to Believe in the greatest gift our Father gave us, His Son Jesus Christ.
ReplyDeleteI HAVE to have this picture to hang in my new baby's room. It would be the finishing touch that I have been looking for for months.
ReplyDeleteYour artwork has such a spirit to it. I can feel the love that Mary has for baby Jesus. I would love to have this painting in my home to help bring the spirit of love in and to remind us of the greatest gift that was given to us, Jesus.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this picture! I remember seeing it for the first time soon after my daughter was born. The way that Mary is holding Jesus, and the expresion on his face is perfect! The cute wrinkled brow as baby is resting on your shoulder. I love my Savior, Jesus Christ, and this picture helps me think of Him with the tender thoughts I have as a mother- Brings it to perspective.
ReplyDelete♥Your art work is amazing and so inspiring! Every picture tells a story as you stare and admire your work. It's more beautiful then if it was real!
ReplyDeleteHaving a big family your art work in our home has created a wonderful place to live. It brings our family much joy and calmness when they come back home from a long day in the crazy world. This pic is one of (many) favorites :)♥
I would love to have a piece of your artwork in my home. This is a beautiful picture that would bring the spirit to anyone who saw it. Thank you!!
ReplyDelete(I posted this on the Bringing Peace Into The Home blog...but just in case, I'll post it here too) :)
ReplyDeleteI would absolutely love to win this painting...not for myself but for my sister-in-law/best friend. My sister-in-law just barely lost her daughter, Emma, a little over a month ago. She wasn't even two years old yet and was their only child. I think this painting would speak volumes to her as it truly shows a mothers deep love for her child. Your painting is so beautiful and I think it would be a wonderful thing to put into her home to always be a reminder to her about her special bond with Emma. The title is very applicable as well. Mary is accepting the Lord's will that she will carry and raise Jesus Christ. Just as it was the will of the Lord that our dear sweet Emma passed.
If we are lucky enough to be chosen to recieve one of your pictures, contact me at alexandshauna@gmail.com
Thanks so much! Your picture is very inspiring and comforting!

ReplyDeleteYour artwork is very lovely. I sorta grew up with Cori Dyer, she lived across the street from me. Wonderful, wonderful person! I would like to win your lovely artwork to give as a gift to my mom. I think anyone who has suffered the loss of a child would find peace in looking at this picture. My mom lost a child, my brother, a few days after giving birth. Her mother, my cute little grammy was diagnosed with breast cancer this year and had a masectomy and is now undergoing Chemo. I think the picture would mean a lot to her, as well as bring her peace~ especially during this time of year. Thank you for giving away your talent. It's just lovely.
<3 Amie
I would love to win this because it's such a beautiful reminder of the our Savior and his birth during the holiday season- which is what it's all about!

ReplyDeleteBefore writing my reasons as to "WHY" I wanted to win this beautiful picture, I decided to read the many posts that had already been submitted. As it came closer for my turn, I read Shauna's (whom I do not know) letter and tears filled my eyes. In that moment my purpose changed. If I were to win this picture, I would give it to Shauna...who could give it to her sister-in-law...who recently lost her daughter, Emma. I feel that this picture would help Emma's mother in the healing process of losing her only child.

This painting is awe inspiring and arresting at the same time. I love to be reminded of how precious our life is and what our saviour did to secure us for eternity. This would be a beautiful addition to our home and a wonderful conversation piece to help share the gospel. I don't believe anyone could view it and not wonder about it's origin or meaning.

This painting is so special! I would love to win it! Jesus saved our marriage and we would enjoy having this print in our home for all our family and friends to see! I don't think I could bear to give it away even for a gift!!
ReplyDeleteKatherine
WHY you say?? First, Liz is an amazing artist! I have a small copy of this print and had it in my babies rooms! I would love to win this print for my best girlfriend Elizabeth, who just had her 5th baby yesterday! She is an inspiration to me. She had a plan of having her baby girl all natural. She was focused and determined. She was able to have her in 4 hours! No drugs! I love her and am so proud of her! I would love for this painting to be hanging in her baby girls room! It is the perfect way to describe our love for our children. The same way Mary loved our Savior!
ReplyDeleteI have seen this print and have admired it. I think having having gospel art in the home is so important. This picture would be a lovely way to offset some of the Santa-hype that is so overpresent! Joni
ReplyDeleteHi again, I just put in a friend request for Liz at Facebook. Joni

ReplyDeleteI just absolutely love this painting! If I had the budget, I would just go and buy it! I would really like to win this painting because it shows the importance of being a mother, especially Mary. I love that you only see her eyes behind Christ as a child. I'm having our first baby in February and would love to put this in her nursery.
ReplyDeleteI also followed both blogs and emailed for the newsletter. Thanks!

oh goodness how i would love to win. this might be my single most important blog comment...ever. i would love to win because, well, i LOVE your work...and... every year i get your calendars for christmas. simple smaller prints of many of your paintings adorn my home. and this single picture carried my hope and heart through years of infertility. i found great peace in looking at it, still do as a mother of four young children. i think of the peace mary must have felt and yet the daunting task of raising the savior of the world. you gift is incredible and my family and i are so very thankful you share it. if i won this painting, it would be the centerpiece of our home. it is not only stunning visually but it also stirs up each heart that sees it. thank you.
ReplyDeleteI believe that just like music or poetry, art has a beautiful way of speaking to our souls that just words could never accomplish. On the same note I don't think words could do justice for how much I love this painting. I'll be honest, I haven't seen your work before, but a friend of mine had your give away on her blog, and the moment I saw this beautiful piece I started to cry. I just lost my baby boy in October and have been grieving ever since. This picture of Mary and Christ just touched my heart and made me think of my little Oliver. I know that there is no grief, suffering, or illness that the atonement and love of Christ cannot heal, and your picture is a perfect reminder of that. Whether I win this painting or not, I just wanted to express my gratitude and say thank you. Thank you for sharing your talent and reminding me of something so perfect and pure.
ReplyDeleteThis painting in particular has touched me since the first time I saw it 10 years ago. I believe I was at BYU for education week as a teenager, trying to figure out what to do with my life. When I saw that painting, I knew I wanted to be a mother. I knew my Savior came to earth as an infant. I knew I wanted to do the most noble work.
ReplyDeleteMy mother knew I loved the painting, but we couldn't get a copy of it. One time in 2001 or 2002 it was printed in the Friend. Thoughtfully, my mother cut it out, matted it, and framed it. It hung over my bed as I endured my senior year of high school, all four years of undergraduate work at BYU, two years of graduate work at the University of Utah, my first five years of marriage, and now it is in my bathroom of my home in Draper.
I have recently become a mother, and when I held my infant son next to my pitiful print, I felt overwhelmingly grateful for the opportunity I had to be a first-time mother like Mary to such a precious son. I felt as young and inexperienced as Mary, yet just as bold and determined to train my son in the way he should go.
This painting has undeniably changed my life, and it is my Friend copy. If I won a more authentic print, I would display it proudly in my home and tear up every time I look at it, just like I do every time I see my copy in the bathroom.

I love Liz' work, and this piece is my absolute favorite. It's probably my favorite of all LDS art, and it was the first of Liz's work that I ever saw. It's just so incredibly compelling -- the fierceness of a mother protecting her child.
ReplyDeleteI didn't "follow" but I subscribed to both blogs in Google Reader. I hope that will still count.
I look at this painting and so many emotions and feelings arise. It truly captures the tenderness of motherhood. After struggling for years to have children we were blessed with four and are grateful everyday for each of them. It would be amazing to have this painting hanging in my home. It would be a hanging testimony not only for those who visit our home but for my family as well. Thank you so much for the opportunity to win this! :)

I'm so excited to find you here. I was given your book that contains the sweet artwork of Joseph and his precious child when I gave birth to my daughter years ago. Joseph's humanity and kindness has always shone through and my heart has been softened by your depiction of this beloved man. I've always been a very visual person and as I prepared for a trip to Palmyra, your artwork played an integral part in preparing myself for what I had hoped and prayed would be be an amazing soulful journey. It turned out to be all that and more. I was graced by some very gentle tender mercies on that pilgrimage. Ones that will forever be with me. When I peruse your artwork, my spirit is reminded of how much I love Joseph. And Emma! Oh Emma, how much I adore Emma! Thank you for portraying her as the deep and good soul that she is Emma. Your art touches me. Deeply. And for that I must say bless you Liz Lemon. ♥ ♥ ♥ I'd love to win this gorgeous piece of art for my home. Love you lady!
ReplyDeleteI feel completely overwhelmed with awe at Mary and all that she stands for. What a precious, pure, righteous spirit she obviously was to have been chosen for the incomparable task of giving birth to and raising the Son of God! I have often wondered what her feelings were; and also what sort of things she "pondered, and kept...in her heart." Did she feel the same inadequacies that I often feel as a mother? Did she wonder if her labors were acceptable before God? To me, Mary is the essence of motherhood. She embodies all that motherhood is and should be. I LOVE this painting b/c it speaks volumes to me of all the indescribable emotions that accompany motherhood--the joy and the pain all mixed together. I never win these sorts of things, but I still would like you to know how much this stunning painting means to me.
ReplyDeleteI just love this painting so much and would love to have it hanging in my home. I have gone to a fireside where Liz has spoken and she is just an amazing women and artist. I love her work!
ReplyDeleteI have always loved your paintings, especially this one. It gives me chills and brings tears to my eyes. It truly shoes the love a mother has for their child.
ReplyDeleteYour artwork has such a special feeling that brings the spirit. Everytime I have seen your work in someones home, no matter what emotions I am feeling I can take a look at your art work, and all my worldly problems seem to start to fall away, and a gentle spiritual peace comes to me, and i am renewed... thank you
ReplyDeleteThis is my absolute favorite of your paintings! I have fallen in love from the first time I saw it years ago! The colors are rich, and strike such a feeling of peace - not only from knowing this is the Baby Jesus, but because it reminds me of my own newborns, and the peaceful feeling they brought into our home - knowing how recently they had left our Heavenly Father's presence. You've captured the moment between mother/baby so perfectly. LOVE IT!

ReplyDeleteI have been converted to the concept that artwork on my walls should have meaning and invoke some sort of feeling or teach an important value. This painting makes me think of the inner strength we all have, even at a very young age, to do impossible things. It's also symbolic of perfect faith. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this picture because it's always been one of my favorites. I love the spirit it conveys. I love how you can picture Mary as the mother she was and not just as a character you read about.
